Take off locations on the map are approximate. Do NOT land in RED AREAS on the map unless in an emergency.

Top to bottom: 300m
A series of hills and cliffs bisected by a narrow valley giving a large site of great, panoramic coastal soaring, with the option to make a few 'jumps' and do a touch of exploring. Please be aware that there are many recorded incidents of direct hits from Buzzard attacks!
The promontory to the SW of take off is Carreg y Llam, it stretches around to Porth Pistyll, it is a SSSI as well as being home to countless numbers of nesting birds. Nesting season is from the 1st of February to the 31st of July, please do not fly in close proximity to it during this period, not only could you cause great distress to many birds or worse, you could also jeopardise the use of the site.
Getting to take-off:
Take the mountain road out of Llithfaen that leads towards Nant Gwrtheyrn. Park in the large car park on the left, by where the trees have been felled, just before the road descends steeply.
The commonly used takeoff is reached by heading through the gate at the south end of the car park then climbing up, veering north to reach a nice large grassy field overlooking the sea.
There is a gnarly takeoff if you walk down the road 'till a sharp right-hand bend where you're looking out to sea. Contour left from here and find a suitable take-off place amongst the heather and facing the sea. Alternatively walk along the track which parallels the power cables at the back of the bowl and take off from the grassy slope which faces NW. Give the power lines plenty of room!
Landing:
Top land with great care. Normal landing on the beach but be extremely aware of the tidal state as there's no beach left at high tide. There is a cafe down there in the summer. Don't land right by the buildings.
Don'ts:
- Drive down the road past the take off car park. There's nowhere to park until you reach the bottom.
- Land by the buildings at the bottom.
- Do not fly in close proximity to Carreg y Llam the promontory to the SW of take off between February 1st and 31st July
Challenges:
- There is no beach at high tide so be aware.
- There is no sea level route back from Trefor to Nant Gwrtheyrn.
- Watch out for the power lines.
- Can rotor on top landing.
